LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY – Morris Industries, a 21st Century industrial group with holdings in the recycling sector, is pleased to announce that Nate Morris, Chairman, was asked to address the Appalachian Ohio Zero Waste Initiative’s: Waste to Wealth Summit. The summit brought together 130 regional solid waste management stakeholders to examine how to build and sustain rural wealth by increasing resource recovery and supporting the development of recycling-based businesses. Morris spoke on waste issues affecting rural areas.
“Waste is a social, economic and environmental problem for everyone – especially people living in rural areas because in many cases these communities bear a disproportionate burden because landfills are in their backyard,†said Morris. “Waste to Wealth brought together thought leaders from across Appalachia to discuss these critical issues and develop solutions.â€
The AOZWI is a partnership led by Rural Action, a regional sustainable development group based in Trimble, Ohio, with the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs at Ohio University. The initiative is funded by the Sugar Bush Foundation, a supporting foundation of Ohio University.
“When I met Nate Morris at the Clinton Global Initiative, I knew we had to involve Rubicon Global in our efforts. First, because Nate understands the challenges and opportunities we have in Central Appalachia and because Rubicon is a business creating local wealth by working with local and regional haulers to achieve corporate zero waste goals,†said Michelle Decker,
Rural Action’s Executive Director. “Nate’s participation and presentation brought in that valuable corporate perspective that in rural and micropolitan regions we sometimes overlook but which are critical to moving a green economy in the region.â€
Rural Action builds model sustainable development projects and encourages a broad civic conversation around Appalachia’s assets in order to create sustainable development paths for the region. Rubicon Global is proud to support Rural Action in its mission to build a green regional economy and will continue to look for innovative solutions to waste issues facing rural communities.
